Born as Lucas François Bernard Hernández, the French professional footballer is known as Lucas Hernandez or simply Lucas. Lucas currently plays for the French national team as a left-back or centre-back, as well as for Spanish club Atlético Madrid.
Hernandez was among the 23 men selected to represent France at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and he made his World Cup appearance for the first time in his career on June 16, 2018 in a match against Australia which s ended in a 2-1 victory for the Blues.
Lucas was born on February 14, 1996in the French city of Marseille. Born to a father who was a player at the time of his birth, you can be sure he was born into football and grew up loving football. With his potential, the young Lucas was transferred to Spain at the age of four. At the age of eleven, he joined the Atlético Madrid youth team.
Hernandez is the first of two sons born to former French footballer Jean-François Hernández who played during his active days at Olympique de Marseille, Toulouse FC and FC Sochaux-Montbéliard. He retired from professional football in 2002, aged 33. Francois was a centre-back and he played for Atlantic Madrid during their prime.
Lucas’ father is said to have abandoned his wife Laurence and two children, so the boys were raised by their mother, but there isn’t much information online about their mother, her background and her work.
His only brother, Theo, is also a professional footballer who serves as a left-back for Spanish club Real Madrid.
In 2013, while playing in the junior team, Diego Simeone, then manager of Atlético Madrid, invited Lucas to play a La Liga game against Villarreal CF. However, he was shut out throughout the game which ended in a 1-1 draw.
He made his debut in April 2014 at the cinemaSegunda División B where he played for the reserves against Real Sociedad in a game that ended in a 0-1 defeat. Lucas has appeared in three more matches this season and at the end of the season he signed a new contract which will keep him at the club until 2018.
Lucas Hernandez made his first-team debut in December 2014 against CE L’Hospitalet, the match of the Copa del Rey campaign ended in a 3-0 victory. His first appearance for the Spanish club came later the same month in a match against Athletic Bilbao, where he took over from Guilherme Siqueira. The game ended in a 4-1 away win.

In August 2015, Lucas Hernandez renewed his contract with the club which will keep him with the Spanish side until 2019 and possibly longer. His first appearance for the main team came in March 2016 in the UEFA Champions League, where he replaced Diego Godín in the series draw against PSV Eindhoven. The Spanish team eventually won 8-7 on penalties after the match ended goalless in rules and extra time. He also came into play in the final which ended inshootout loss to Real Madrid.
Lucas Hernandez also played for France. His first appearance for the France national team was with the under-16 team. It was in 2012 when he played a friendly against Italy which ended in a 1-1 draw. Two years later, he was playing with the Under-18 and Under-19 teams.
At the beginning of 2018, he was invited to play with the senior by the team’s manager, Didier Deschamps, in a friendly match against Colombia and then Russia. In the game against Colombia, he replaced Lucas Digne for the last 14 minutes of the game. Lucas was later selected in the squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
His World Cup debut came on June 16, 2018 in a game against Australia which ended in a 2-1 victory.
Lucas is not married or has any children. However, he has a girlfriend named Amelia de la Ossa Lorente.
In February 2017, Lucas trended online for the worst reason ever – he was arrested due to domestic violence against his girlfriend. The duo were injured in what appeared to be a fight between them and Lorente destroyed Lucas’car in the process.
They were both sentenced to community service and a mutual restraining order of 500 meters was imposed. Lucas signed it, but Amelia de la Ossa Lorente reportedly did not sign.
The Atletico Madrid defender stands at a height of 6″0 which is 1.83m and weighs 76kg. His other body measurements are not known.
