About Katharina Altman

Katharina "Katy" Altman was born on July 1st, 1983 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania to parents Cindy Lou (Walters) Karr (Bill) and Clifford T. Smith, who passed away before her birth. She graduated from Hempfield Area High School in Greensburg and went on to study Cultural Anthropology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Altman later completed further coursework in the same field at IUP.

Professionally, Altman worked as a recreational gymnastics instructor at Elegance Elite Gymnastics and as a yoga instructor (RYT 200) at Wistwind School of Dance and Gymnastics. She was passionate about coaching young gymnasts and helped them improve both physically and mentally.

Her Vibrant, Motivational Coaching Style

Altman was known for her upbeat, patient and motivational coaching style. She persevered with students, emphasizing determination and seeing the good in each child. Her positive energy and genuine concern for her gymnasts made her an inspirational role model.

Altman's Sudden Passing'

According to a Facebook post confirming her passing, Altman died on Friday, July 28th 2023 shortly after giving birth to a baby girl named Whitley Jordan. The suspected cause was amniotic fluid embolism, a rare childbirth complication.

Altman was just 40 years old at the time of her passing. She leaves behind her newborn daughter and three other children - Adilade Rose, Walter Brooks and Ayla Maret. Her husband Brandon S. Altman and other family members survive her as well.

Remembering A Vibrant Life

While her time on earth was far too short, Altman lived life to the fullest and inspired countless young gymnasts. Friends describe her as the epitome of positivity and motivation. Her faith in God and love for her family were unwavering.

Altman's visitation will take place on Thursday, August 3rd at the Leo M. Bacha Funeral Home in Greensburg, PA. A celebration of life service will follow from 6:00 - 6:30 pm. She will be laid to rest privately.
